The Missoula Board of County Commissioners looks to fill one vacancy each on the East Missoula Community Council and the Local Emergency Planning Committee.

East Missoula Community Council – One vacancy to fulfill remaining term until May 31, 2020. The council is comprised of five members who are registered voters within the boundaries of the East Missoula Sewer District. Members of the East Missoula Community Council are elected to advance and promote the interests and welfare of the citizens of the East Missoula community by providing useful, beneficial and helpful information for the Missoula County Commissioners to consider in their decision-making process. Should the selected member wish to continue serving beyond 2020, they will need to file as a candidate in the school/special district election. The council meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m., September through May.
Local Emergency Planning Committee [LEPC] – One vacancy to fulfill the remaining term until Dec. 31, 2018. At that time, the member will be eligible to be reappointed to a full three-year term. The committee is looking for a citizen who is active in the community and interested in emergency planning, preparedness and response.
The purpose of the LEPC is to develop, train and test a hazardous substance emergency response plan; develop procedures for regulated facilities to provide notification for the LEPC in accordance with Title III, Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act [SARA]; develop procedures for receiving and processing requests from the public under the Community Right-To-Know provisions of Title III, SARA; provide for public notification of committee activities; implement such other activities as may be legally required by the federal government, State Emergency Response Commission [SERC], the board of county commissioners and/or the city council.
The LEPC consists of members nominated by the LEPC, as well as two members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and two members appointed by the Missoula City Council. These members represent the various professional and community groups designated in Title III, SARA. There are 20 members total. The committee meets quarterly at 1:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of January April, July and October.
