We’ve all heard Airbnb “horror” stories–hidden cameras, scary host encounters–but are these real fears or rare occurrences?
To find out, Digital Third coast surveyed 2,000 people who have stayed in an Airbnb about their feelings about hosts, security, and personal space. Findings include:
- 58% are worried about hidden cameras in Airbnb; 11% say they uncovered one
- 42% research their host online before renting
- Half worry about their host having access to their accommodations
- 1 in 4 prefer a host of the same gender
Women were more likely to want a host of the same gender for safety reasons, but beyond that, guests are most concerned about their host’s’ rating on the platform.
