Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff The Rest Of The Week

August 28, 2018 By

Governor’s Proclamation

I hereby order all flags flown in the State of Montana to be flown at half-staff to honor the memory of U.S. Senator John McCain from Monday, August 27th, 2018, until Sunday, September 2nd, 2018, the day of his interment.

Senator John McCain was a hero in war and in Congress. His moral courage, his perseverance, and his ability to work with all those who wanted to advance the values of the American people will never be forgotten and will continue to guide us through challenging times.

Dated this 27th day of August 2018.

The Arizona Republican died Saturday of brain cancer.

White House flags were lowered again Monday after criticism was leveled at President Donald Trump for raising them earlier in the day. McCain was critical of Trump, and Trump questioned the former prisoner of war’s heroism.

Senate leaders of both parties formally requested that American flags at government buildings stay at half-staff.
