Assistant police chief Scott Hoffman says that one of the victims said the male suspect ran away after the shooting.
The motive isn’t known but Hoffman said there’s no reason to believe the shooting was random since all three met in the secluded area.
Capt. Mike Colyer says the gun was found at about 1 p.m. Monday and will be sent to the state crime lab for testing to help identify the suspect.
Colyer says the boys are hospitalized, but are expected to recover. They were able to talk to police briefly after the shooting and officers hope to interview them soon.

On Sunday evening, June 24, 2018 a shooting took place outside of Sentinel High School. The incident occurred behind the gymnasium in the road running between the main school building and several outbuildings. We can confirm that the victims of the shooting were not MCPS students and the Missoula Police Department has confirmed that the firearm used in the shooting has been recovered by law enforcement officers.
