Six citizens from Missoula’s sister city of Palmerston North, New Zealand will visit Missoula from October 9-15. This delegation includes Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith, his wife Michelle, Maori Chief Wiremu Te Awe Awe and his wife Trieste, International Relations Manager Toni Grace, and Massey University Professor Hone Morris. They will spend the week visiting Missoula and other parts of western Montana, including the State Capitol in Helena, Salish-Kootenai College in the Flathead Valley, and a visit to the Bitterroot Valley.
An opening reception will take place on Tuesday, October 9 at 5:00 p.m. in the Payne Native American Center. The program will include remarks from both Mayor Engen and Mayor Smith as well as other members of the delegation. This is a free event and is open to the public, and we encourage all to attend and celebrate our sister city partnership.
