Missoula police will hold an open house for their new ‘storefront’ station and evidence facility on Missoula’s southwest side Friday. The new building, just a block off South Russell Street on Catlin will be open to the public Friday from 10am to 1pm. The department had originally hoped to build a new facility on city-owned land, but bids came in nearly double the amount budgeted by the council. The cost of buying the 15,000 square foot building across from Westside Lanes left police with funds to remodel the facility to include secure evidence storage, offices for some members of the force and an area where citizens can meet with officers, make reports and claim property. All administrative offices, traffic investigations, office of professional standards, abandoned vehicles, records, communications will remain downtown.
