The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers face off in Miami Gardens, Florida Sunday for Super Bowl 54. For the special occasion, the financial site WalletHub has crunched some big numbers about the Big Game.
Without further ado:
The average Super Bowl party-goer consumes a whopping 6,000 calories, from pregame to night’s end, the site says. That’s about two-and-a-half times the recommended daily caloric intake for the average man, and three times the intake for women. But that game day calorie splurge isn’t surprising, considering:
1.4 billion chicken wings, 11.2 million pounds potato chips and eight million pounds of guacamole will be eaten.
10 million pounds of ribs of are sold the week of the Super Bowl.
There’s a 50% increase in pizza orders on Super Bowl Sunday, with 67% more pizza is eaten on Super Bowl Sunday than on the average day.
51.7 million cases of beer are sold on Super Bowl Sunday, and 90% more beer is consumed on Super Bowl Sunday than an average day.
$1.3 billion is spent on beer and cider on Super Bowl Sunday. $597 million is spent on wine, and $503 million is spent on hard liquor.
Not surprisingly, one in ten people will miss work the day after the Super Bowl.

Also of note: The average 30-second Super Bowl commercial costs more than $5.6 million bucks. Is it worth it? Maybe: 23% of those polled say commercials are the best part of the Big Game. But alas, just 10% of those polled remember which company sponsored which ad, while 80% say Super Bowl commercials fail to change their brand preference.
