The Missoula Softball Association (MSA) announces the Grand Opening Celebration
of the Fort Missoula Softball Complex, Friday, June 29th, 6pm – 11pm.
In 2014, the tax payers of Missoula County approved a county bond that funded the
expansion of Fort Missoula Regional Park. Phase one, the west side of the park was
completed in 2016. Phase two, the east side of the park includes a new state of the art
The festivities includes a free Community Picnic 6 – 8:30pm sponsored by Eagles Lodge
- The public is encouraged to come out and grab a hotdog, chips and beverage and tour
the new facility. Every adult softball league in Missoula is involved; Missoula Softball
Association, Missoula Park and Rec, Men’s Fast Pitch League, Christian Softball League
and Junior Olympic Girls 14. One trip through the complex you will see teenagers, men,
women, co-rec and seniors playing different types of softball during the event.
A 7pm ribbon cutting first pitch ceremony is planned on field one. Twelve exhibition
games featuring Men, Women, Co-Rec, Men’s Fast Pitch, Junior Olympic Girls are
scheduled between 6 and 9:30pm including an exhibition game between Missoula Police
versus the Missoula Rural Fire Department at 7:25pm. The evening will end with a home
run derby. $500 prize, winner takes all. $200 for the furthest hit ball.
There is free parking at the new complex with additional free shuttle service 5:30 – 9:30pm
from Big Sky High’s parking lot to the main gate and back. All events are free thanks to
sponsorship by USA Softball of Montana and Destination Missoula/TBID.
On Saturday and Sunday, a 45 team tournament is sold out featuring adult softball
teams from around the state competing in the Zootown Regional Softball Tournament.
