Montana Natural History Center’s July Programs and Events

Mark your calendars!  The Montana Natural History Center has a full schedule of community programs and events this July.

NATIVE PLANT GARDEN WORK & LEARN DAY
Identification of Local and Invasive Grasses
Volunteer in the Fort Missoula Native Plant Garden to help maintain this wonderful place. Learn about native plants as you work and during a focused education time from 5:00-6:00 pm. This week the education topic will be on learning how to identify local and invasive grasses. Study beautiful grasses up close!

Native Plant Identification
Volunteer in the Fort Missoula Native Plant Garden to help maintain this wonderful place. Learn about native plants as you work and during a focused education time from 5:00-6:00 pm. This week the education topic will be on learning how to identify native plants.

 Medicinal Plants
Volunteer in the Fort Missoula Native Plant Garden to help maintain this wonderful place. Learn about native plants as you work and during a focused education time from 5:00-6:00 pm. This week the education topic will be on local medicinal plants and their use historically and today.

 Journaling: Plants and Pollinators
Volunteer in the Fort Missoula Native Plant Garden to help maintain this wonderful place. Learn about native plants as you work and during a focused education time from 5:00-6:00 pm. This week the education topic will be on practicing the art of journaling by observing native plants and pollinators.

Invasive Weeds
Volunteer in the Fort Missoula Native Plant Garden to help maintain this wonderful place. Learn about native plants as you work and during a focused education time from 5:00-6:00 pm. This week the education topic will be on practicing the art of journaling by observing native plants and pollinators.

Time:  4:00-6:00 pm

 miniNaturalists PRE-K Program:
The miniNaturalist Pre-K program will engage youngsters in the exploration of the natural world through fun hands-on activities, games and play.  Each month we will visit a different Missoula area park. In July our programs will be held at Greenough Park.
Date:  Thursdays,  July 3rd and 17th
Time:  10:00 am-11:00 am
Location:  Greenough Park
Cost:  Admission per child for this program is $1 for MNHC members; $3 for non-members.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Best for ages 2-5.

NATURALIST FIELD DAY
Arachnids with Jennifer Smith
Learn your spiders! This unique field day will increase your knowledge of spider biology, their role in the ecosystem and how to identify spiders and their webs.  Catch and ID spiders with an expert to gain this hard to find knowledge.
Date:  Saturday, June 5th
Time:  9:00-5:00 pm
Location:  Meet at the Montana Natural History Center, 120 Hickory St.

SATURDAY KIDS  ACTIVITY
Creatures of Silver’s Lagoon
Use nets, collecting buckets and magnifying lenses to study and release the creatures of Silver’s Lagoon. From fish to frog eggs, dragonflies to water beetles, there are plenty of exciting discoveries to be made at the lagoon.
Date:  Saturday, July 5th
Time: 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Location:  The Montana Natural History Center, 120 Hickory St.
Cost:  $3/$1, MNHC members. Best for ages 5 and up.
