Wings of Freedom Tour

The Museum of Mountain Flying has been having an event this week called The Wings of Freedom Tour.

According to the news release the Wings of Freedom Tour is a “living history event that allows people to learn more about their heritage and history through direct participation.”

You can even fly with the four aircraft brought to Missoula: a B-24 Liberator heavy bomber, Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber, North American B-25 Mitchell and a P-51 Mustang fighter.

Flight costs for the B-17 and B-24 are $450 / person, B-25 are $400 / person, and the P-51 flights are $2,200 for a half-hour and $3,200 for a full hour.

Just to see the aircraft on the ground it’s $15 for adults and if you’re 12 years or younger it’s $5.

But if you missed it this week! They will also be in Bozeman July 7th – 9th and Billings July 10th – 12th!

How to prepare in case of an Earthquake?

Last night, many of us were woken up to the 5.8 magnitude earthquake.  The epicenter was near Lincoln, MT. But a question to think about is how can you prepare yourself for an earthquake?

Some quick facts about earthquakes according to FEMA:

  • Earthquakes strike suddenly, violently and without warning at any time of the year and at any time of the day or night.
  • Smaller earthquakes often follow the main shock.
  • An earthquake is caused by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the earth’s surface.

With shaking occurring, this can cause pictures to fall off the walls, chimneys to crumble, and power outages.

Ways you can prepare are:

  • keeping a pair of shoes under your bed so you don’ t walk on the glass or debris
  • keep a flashlight nearby in case your power goes out
  • and your cell phone close in case an emergency happens

Mall Walkers

I had the pleasure of joining the Mall Walkers at the Southgate mall on Friday to experience this fitness program.

In the front of the room was Elaine Tietz welcoming everyone with a big smile and laughter. Tietz’s mother was the one who actually started this program in the late 80’s and it’s “walked” in the family ever since.

As I settled in the back with my camera, the walkers began talking to me and asking me how my day is going. The next thing I knew, I was speaking in front of all of them and the room was almost full.

“And usually we have every seat full,” said Tietz.

On Monday’s and Wednesday’s the walkers start with some stretches or light weight lifting, but on Friday’s they tell jokes to each other.

So, find a joke, put on your tennis shoes and experience the Mall Walkers.

They meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9am in the Community Room at the Southgate Mall.
