Turns out across the pond, Alexa has earned her MD.
Amazon smart speaker owners in the UK will soon be able to ask “Dr. Alexa” their medical questions.
British officials announced Wednesday that the country’s health care service will pair up with Amazon’s digital voice assistant. The goal is to get accurate health information out quickly to senior citizens, the blind and others who have a hard time accessing the internet.
Alexa will answer voice questions from users using information verified by the National Health Service.
The partnership doesn’t come without privacy concerns. Back in the U.S., the Seattle Times reports that Amazon is being sued because Alexa devices allegedly record children without their parents’ consent.
