If you’ve never heard of the app TikTok, you’re clearly in the minority. The analysts at App Annie have discovered that Americans spent 85 million hours on the seconds-long video app last year.
TikTok’s use jumped 375% from 2018 to 2019. Americans have preferred the short vids on the app over other platforms like Amazon Prime and Netflix.
The report also reveals that the average American spends 2.8 hours a day on their mobile devices, and some $120 billion was spent in apps globally in 2019. Seventy-two percent — or $86 billion of that total — came from gaming-related apps, with some Americans contributing $25 billion to that bottom line.
The analysts also noted that the dating app Tinder generated the most money of the non-gaming apps.
