Here’s something for anyone job-hunting. The website Glassdoor.com posted a list of things you should NEVER say in a job interview. Here are five phrases that could cost you a job . . .
1. “I can’t imagine anyone more qualified than me.” Confidence is good, but there’s a fine line. So just try to avoid anything that could make you seem arrogant. The goal is to show them you’re special without TELLING them you’re special.
2. “Do people like working here?” If it’s a bad place to work, they won’t tell you that. So it’s kind of a pointless question. Plus, it makes you seem suspicious. So you’re better off googling the company to see what past employees have to say.
3. “My last boss was terrible.” Even if it’s true, it suggests YOU might be difficult to work with. So stay positive, and don’t badmouth an old boss or an old company.
4. “I’ve actually never done this type of job before.” Focus on why you’re a GOOD fit, not a bad fit. And spend your time connecting the dots on your resumé to show why you’re the best candidate for the job. Don’t give them a reason to say no.
5. “Nope, I don’t have any questions.” Asking questions shows you did your research before the interview. So you should always try to have at least one thoughtful question for them. Or ideally, more than one.
