More visitors came to Montana last year, but they spent fewer dollars while they were here. The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research at UM says over 12.5 million nonresidents visited the Treasure State in 2019 and they spent around $3.6 billion, down 2% from 2018, mostly due to smaller groups and shorter stays. The ITRR’s figures are preliminary, but they still contributed to supporting an estimated 40,700 jobs directly and more than 56,000 jobs in total. The full report is available at the Institute’s website at UM located HERE.
