On Wednesday February 21, 2018, the Montana Skin Academy started its first class of students.
“We are thrilled this dream has finally become a reality,” said Montana Skin Academy Founder and CEO, Jennifer Clouse. “For years, there has been an unmet demand for quality estheticians in Montana. Now we can fill this need right here in Missoula.”
Montana Skin Academy is a licensed school for the training and licensing of estheticians. An esthetician is a person who specializes in the beautification health of the skin. Estheticians are not medical doctors; instead, they perform cosmetic skin treatments such as facials, superficial chemical peels, body treatments, and waxing.
“Montana Skin Academy will be the only school in Montana that focusses solely on the art of esthetics,” said Mandy Shafer, Lead Instructor. “Prior to the opening of Montana Skin Academy, students wishing to pursue this career would have to travel several hours away or even out of state to pursue their passion.”
Students attending the Montana Skin Academy will receive 650 hours of training including classes in: sanitation, safety, anatomy, physiology, disorders of the skin, chemistry, waxing and hair removal, skin care, makeup, facials, lash extensions, tinting of eyelashes and eyebrows, and skin exfoliation. Students will also learn salon management, business methods, customer service, professional ethics, and current state board laws and rules.
To graduate and receive a license students must:
- Complete 650 hours of training;
- Complete of all practical clinic floor work;
- Grades and attendance must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements; and
- Pass all level 3 testing, the NIC National Practical Exam, and the National written exam[TJ3].
