Where have all the workers gone?

Montana employers often cite the lack of people who 'want to work' as a reason for not having enough staff these days.

And it's true.

In the last decade, 50,000 Montanans have retired. Retired workers are now the largest group of adults over 16 that are no longer in the labor force. And the number of retired workers in Montana has almost doubled since 1995 - from just over 100,000 to over 203,000 today.

The good news for Montana employers - almost half of retired workers would go back to work for the right job.
